Ecotourism Courses

This earth is all we've got. It is therefore important that we learn to value it and all it gives us. Ecotourism is a promotion of this statement.

Known as ecological tourism, ecotourism focuses on a kind of tourism that minimizes the damage tourism brings to nature. Tourism as we know it involves hundreds of people flocking to natural sights each year, causing disturbances in natural habitats, the area's wildlife and plant diversity. Ecotourism seeks to discourage this kind of tourism by encouraging ecologically positive activities such as recycling, re-greening, energy and water conservation. Ecotourism also highlights the importance of native cultures and local communities.

In light of the growing interest to protect and preserve nature, quite a number of colleges and universities have incorporated ecotourism into their curriculum, as a degree. There are undergraduate courses on ecotourism in top universities around the world, and some schools offer Masters and Doctoral degrees in ecotourism as well. Training and research programs for these ecotourism courses include topics that discuss environmental management, ecology, the natural sciences and marketing. Specific areas of concern can be specialized in by students, such as outdoor adventure and management training or survival skills.

Ecotourism courses are all aimed at preserving and promoting natural and cultural heritages. These courses seek to equip students with the proper knowledge in the interest of sustainable development and in the addressing of environmental concerns.
